What actually makes a name usable?

The AKC recommends a name that is easy to say and distinct from common training cues. A unique spelling does not matter to the dog; sound matters more.

Avoid names that create constant confusion

If one household member is called Nora, naming the dog Cora may cause repeated mix-ups. Likewise, a name too similar to “sit,” “stay” or “no” can be inconvenient.
