Do not choose one for the coat
Merle, patchwork and striking eye colors attract attention, but working temperament matters more. Catahoulas can be intense, physically capable and independent. A beautiful pattern is a poor reason to choose a dog whose daily needs do not fit your household.
Work history shapes behavior
Dogs developed to control livestock and hunt may be persistent, alert and quick to react to movement. They need clear management around other animals and thoughtful socialization rather than the assumption that exercise alone will solve behavior.
